No Ordinary Demi-Dad!

Roddy Galbraith walking on the beach with his two daughters

I said to babe yesterday, that he is obviously setting a great example to our kids, as little Louis, 4, pays me the most sincere, lovely compliments (Mummy, did you do your hair different today? You look beautiful!... Mummy, thank you, this dinner is so tasty!). That's the kind of Daddy Roddy is.

I know the kids watch everything he does. He is their hero. He is the 'fun' one. He is loving and affectionate. He's funny and insightful (and takes care of all the geography, science, math questions :) ). Every time he crosses the threshold it's to cries of "Daddeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!"

Amelie is nearly 12 and firmly believes Daddy knows everything, and is good at everything. They are both morning people (me not so much) so I hear them chatting downstairs most mornings about spirituality, and school work, plans (lots of plans, they both like planning!) and general philosophy. It makes me smile.

Eliza, almost 10, ADORES Roddy. The bond they have is bigger than any other father/daughter bond I have seen. She just lights up when she is with him, I think she feels his calm, loving energy and just feeds off it.

Leon, 8, is so lucky to have Roddy as his Dad. Roddy tells me he was very similar as a kid, so he just knows how to talk with him and engage him. He'll play Super Mario even after a long hard day :) Leon is affectionate and gentle hearted and Roddy just loves him as he is, there's no faux macho nonsense that others might employ with their boys.

Louis, 4, still thinks Roddy is superman. If I can't do something he says with certainty that 'daddy can do it, cos daddy can do everything!' As I said above, he particularly seems to watch how Roddy talks to me. Someone clever said the best thing a father can do for their kids is love their mother... and Roddy does, openly <3

Roddy so rarely raises his voice; he so rarely has raised a hand to them, if ever; he's always firm but never foreboding in any way. I believe the kids know exactly where they stand with him, so they feel secure and valued. Even with the (frankly crazy) few months we have had, and are having, he's been even MORE present I think - taking time to toss a frisbee and play football with the kids. I believe Roddy knows what *really* matters, and keeps trying to be a better Dad.

I am kind of a bit in awe of the kind of father Roddy is. God blessed us all with him, I know that. Some days I forget it, in the chaotic treadmill of daily living, but a day like today makes me stop and remember... and I am glad of that.

Today we celebrate you: no ordinary Demi-Dad :) captain of Team Galbraith and definitely #1 Daddy! WE LOVE YOU ❀️ πŸ’› πŸ’š πŸ’™
